Every week – but especially during National Volunteer Week – we honor and thank our 200-plus Hospice Savannah volunteers who offer support, companionship and hope to those facing a life-limiting illness by sharing their time, energy, expertise and compassion. Our volunteers not only serve patients and families at the bedside but they also assist in the office, help raise awareness, contribute to educational programs, provide fundraising support, work with grieving children, teens and adults, provide leadership on our boards and more.
It is federally mandated under Medicare that five percent of all patient care hours be provided by trained volunteers. This regulation reflects the vital role that volunteers play in the hospice philosophy of care and ensures that our hospice program has roots deep in the communities we serve.
