Hospice Savannah patients and their caregivers now have access to a high-quality Veterans Resources Guide provided by the National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation. The guide, titled “Serving Those Who Served Us” provides the best-in-class resources for Veterans and their families/beneficiaries, and is available through Hospice Savannah.
Of the millions of Veterans living in the United States, over 37% of them are aged 70+ and many are receiving hospice and palliative care. The Serving Those Who Served Us guide is designed to support the 7+ million Veterans of this nation and to assist patients, staff, and caregivers, including families in identifying, understanding, and acquiring appropriate Veteran benefits, many through the Veterans Administration. The guide also includes information for Veterans and their families regarding military pay, retirement pay, and survivor benefits through the Defense Finance and Accounting Services.
While the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) provides a range of benefits for Veterans, many of these services are underutilized or difficult to access. Specifically, the Veterans Resources guide includes comprehensive sections on care benefits, burial benefits, benefits for those with limited income, Arrears of Pay and Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) annuity and filing claims, and robotic pets—which are shown to improve sensory stimulation among those with declining cognitive health.
