SAVANNAH, GA – NOVEMBER 26, 2024, City of Savannah Mayor Van R. Johnson II proclaimed November 2024 to be National Caregiver Month, during the November 26 City Council Meeting.

Mayor Johnson touched on his personal experience with caregiving, and ECI’s support during that time, as one of the inspirations for the proclamation, which states,  “Caregivers play a vital role in the lives of millions of Americans, by providing essential support, comfort, and care to loved ones who are aging, ill, living with disabilities, often at great personal and financial sacrifice.”

The proclamation also reads, “The City of Savannah encourages all residents to acknowledge the dedication of caregivers in our community, express gratitude for their compassion, and support initiatives that enhance their ability to provide personal care.”

Mayor Johnson presented the Edel Caregiver Institute with the official proclamation before asking for a show of hands from the attendees to exhibit how many caregivers were present. The City of Savannah then recognized employees who are caring for loved ones, as an example of those balancing caregiving and career.

The Edel Caregiver Institute, part of the Hospice Savannah continuum of care, supports those caring for a loved one through education, resources, support groups, and individual consultations. ECI is the only area organization with a Certified Independent Dementia Consultant, trained under Teepa Snow’s Positive Approach to Care®, available for both general and dementia caregiving support.
