Students from the Savannah Arts Academy have donated a portion of proceeds from their 2015 Junk 2 Funk fashion shows to Hospice Savannah. Held in late January, the highly anticipated 7th annual event had an “Insectum” theme and featured insect-inspired designs made from recycled and reclaimed materials.
Junk 2 Funk co-founders, teachers Trellis Payne, artistic director, and Megan Scoggins, fashion director, along with their fellow visual arts department faculty members Steve Schetski, Carrie Chapman, Napoleon Wilkerson and Kinte Taylor presented a $500 check to Megan Kerley, VP, Hospice Savannah Foundation, Inc. and Beth Logan, Director of Marketing and Volunteer Services. AP Studio art drawing instructor Steve Schetski, whose father died under hospice care, says, “As part of any good lesson, we believe in teaching good will and donating some of the proceeds back to our community. This is the third time the students have selected Hospice Savannah as a recipient of Junk 2 Funk’s proceeds.”
The instructors also donated a box of Mini Masterpieces completed by the National Art Honor Society members. For a $3 donation, these insect-themed paintings will be available during regular business hours from our Hospice Savannah Art Gallery.
